Getting Ready For Troop Expansion

Over eleven thousand military families moving into eastern Carolina has some communities jumping on the fast track to get ready for the huge increase in population.

Education dollars, housing and infrastructure expansions top the list of concerns for members of a task force designed to deal with the issue. That task force met for the first time in Kinston Wednesday. Lenoir county is one of seven near eastern Carolina's military bases expecting a boom in residents.

It was announced in November that as many as 30,000 residents would be moving to eastern North Carolina over the next five-years as part of the troop expansion.

The group elected an executive task force made up of one member from each of the counties in the eastern region.
