Residents Want More Patrols After Fatal Shooting

There's a call for more police protection in a community where a two year-old was shot and killed and his father seriously injured.

The spark of violence Saturday night in Rocky Mount has residents in the quiet neighborhood on high alert.

Police say a suspect opened fire on the home on Pelham road injuring the father, Airic Whitaker, and killing his 2 year-old son Jamir.

The shooting has neighbors asking for more police patrols, while the boy's parents face possible charges. Police say they found 17 pounds of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia inside the home.

Police say they've identified a suspect in the case, but will not release the name of the person right now. Jamir's father is listed in stable condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

This family has been through enough, more than most could ever possibly imagine. They just lost their little boy and all the police can think about is trying to bring up charges against them. What happened was not their fault. I wonder if it was a WHITE family would you treat the situation the same! What the police needs to be worried about is tracking down the people that took this little boy's life!
