Kill Devil Hills Police Chief, Deputy Chief Suspended

The police chief and deputy chief in Kill Devil Hills have been suspended with pay, but officials won't say why.

Town Manager Debora Diaz said Chief Ray Davis and Deputy Chief Terry Mark Grant were suspended Monday. Diaz said she couldn't explain the suspensions because of personnel policy.

Davis also said he couldn't discuss the suspensions, which are considered non-disciplinary under the personnel policy.

The 54-year-old Davis has been at the Kill Devil Hills Police Department since 1996 and is paid $92,423 a year. The 39-year-old Grant has been a member of the force since 1989 and earns $75,555.

So what now? It's been a year since the last blog entry...what was the outcome of the davis-grant suspensions?? How about the Jedele case? I have searched and can not find anything newer than Jan'08. I lived in the area from 1994-1998 and was in law enforcement. I knew all 3 of these men! So to find all this out just today i was quite surprised.

There's a difference between "corrupt" (which certainly has not been alleged, let alone proven in the case of Messers Grant and Davis), and "homicidal" which is the case with Mr. Jedele. There are several free online dictionaries and other reference materials if you wish to investigate the distinction further. And "a friend" is right: Mr. Jedele is innocent until proven guilty. However, I would dispute the claim that there is "no evidence" pointing at Mr. Jedele's guilt. But rather than hash into that whole issue, I'll just wait to see the results of the trial. Unless I happen to be picked as a juror, my opinion doesn't count for much anyway.

I lived on the beach from 2000 to 2006. I believe that someone should examine the validity of the recent accusations made. How do you take the comments of a self procalimed witch to heart without considering the source? These guys take pride in the jobs they do and they should get paid for risking their lives everyday. Isn't it funny how quick everyone is to jump on the band wagon and point fingers. Has anyone considered how much these guys would lose if they were wrongly accused. How about their children? Not everyone can be Ray Davis or Mark Grant accept it and move on. I'm sure if someone were breaking into your house and threatning your family you wouldn't stop Ray or Mark and say "Ummm, I don't know if your morally sound enough to rescue us" could you call someone else. You know the old saying...those who live in glass houses.........We all have a responsibility to think about that before we make a decision based on here-say.

people jump to too many conclusions. as for the whole situation with ray jedele, seems to me that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. they have no proof he even killed anyone.

Lets see what the investigation reveals before we pass judgement. I am sure that these are not officers who just got "on the job" I would imagine you would have to have quite a few years in before you considered for the position of chief or deputy chief. You can't really put a price tag for a lifelong commitment of putting your life on the line day in and day out.

This message is for John, Bethany is probably referring to the murderer from your local so called "law enforcement". Raymond Jedele I believe is his name to be exact.... Thank-you very much! He murdered a very good friend of mine.

I would like to know what the suspension is for,you just don't suspend the chief and assistant chief for nothing, and is anyone else involved? Will their be any more coverage on this?or is the tourism board wanting to keep it quiet? They sure make a good salary!

Their salaries are a bit much, but it takes a decent amount to live in Dare County.
