The effects of Tuesday's powerful winds took a toll on many things, including fire safety equipment that's used across the state. North Carolina Forestry officials say the timing couldn't be worse. It's the height of fire season and several of their fire fighting planes were severely damaged in Tuesday's high winds, including one very important plane... The Dromader. That aircraft is used to coat forest fires with hundreds of gallons of fire retardant. Officials say the plane's wings are so damaged it can't be flown. Another plane was swept up over a barbed wire fence, just a few feet from a propane tank. The North Carolina Forestry Service says while the plane is being repaired, they'll make do with three single-engine planes until the Dromader is repaired.
