Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown appeared on NBC's Today Show on Monday.
Today Show anchor Matt Lauer asked Sheriff Brown if the body discovered Saturday had been positively identified as Maria Lauterbach's. Sheriff Brown told Lauer that all circumstantial evidence currently points to the remains belonging to Lauterbach and her baby. However, lawmen need DNA and dental record to confirm their suspicions.
Lauer also asked Brown about the letter Laurean left, claiming Lauterbach slit her own throat and he buried her. Brown told Lauer that evidence in the house does not support the claim that Lauterbach took her own life.
Sheriff Brown also told viewers that he appreciated their tips and to continue to call them in. Brown also warned about Laurean, "Do not get him in a corner." Brown says he could be dangerous if a person threatens his ability to continue running from lawmen.
Sheriff Brown also said that if Laurean was watching the program, he should know that, "You committed a terrible crime. Law enforcement in this country is not going to go away until you face a jury in court."
