Kids Heading Back To School In Mattamuskeet

It's back to school Thursday for kids at Mattamuskeet Elementary in Hyde County. Last week, students were dismissed early because low levels of carbon monoxide and diesel fumes were detected, possibly coming from the school's heating system. Even though school is reopening Thursday, some of the classrooms are still off limits until further testing, forcing school administrators to find alternate classroom space. Wednesday night, an open house was held for parents to see the temporary classrooms, address concerns and answer questions about drop off and dismissal procedures. The Hyde County Board of Education outlined criteria the school must meet prior to reopening.
