Those of you starting office pools for the NCAA basketball tournament beware.
According to the law, anyone caught betting money on this tournament or any other sport could be found guilty of a class two misdemeanor in North Carolina. Craven County District Attorney David McFadyen says few people ever get caught in an office pool unless law enforcement happens to find out about it or if a complaint is filed. McFadyen says normally unless officers come across a gambling game during another investigation or receive a specific complaint these matters are not investigated and do not result in charges. McFadyen says anyone convicted of this type of gambling would most certainly lose their winnings, pay other judge issued fines and court costs.
