Tracking 9-1-1 Cell Phone Calls

If you've ever had to dial 9-1-1 for any reason, knowing that help is on the way is a relief. But what if the folks on the other end of the phone can not find you to help you in an emergency? That's the situation across many Eastern Carolina counties that don't have a mapping system to locate the origination of cellular phone calls without the caller telling them. Law enforcement officials in Kinston say it could be four to five months before they are able to implement such a mapping system. Communications officials in Beaufort County expect to make the transition by the fall, Pitt County by the summer. To find out if your county and wireless provider carries the cellular mapping system, go online at www.Wireless911.Its.State.Nc.Us.
