Officials Want Road Money Back in the East

Some North Carolina Department of Transportation officials want $150,000,000 to be paid back to division two in Eastern Carolina. Division two is made up of Pitt, Greene, Beaufort, Lenoir, Craven, Pamlico, Carteret, and Jones counties.

Officials claim that money meant for our roadways has instead been used by other divisions throughout the state, and they want it back. Many areas of Eastern Carolina didn't spend all of their allotment by the state. However, areas like Raleigh spent $311,000,000 over what they're given, basically borrowing from many counties in the East.

Officials say with all the wetlands and wildlife, it's hard to get permits to build better roadways, but that is changing. Transportation officials say that over the next seven years the money owed to counties in Eastern Carolina will be reimbursed because it is legally theirs.
