Kids Hit the Water to Learn

Gliding across the Neuse River on a state of the art vessel and learning how to protect the river's future. It's all part of a newly developed curriculum in Craven County Schools dedicated to training students about the river's ecosystem and the challenges it faces. The program was designed after the Neuse River Foundation got a $50,000 grant from the Education Foundation of America. To supplement classroom lessons students get to take a trip up the river and learn how water samples are taken and analyzed for things like oxygen levels and pollution. Students will also be trained to earn the title of junior river keeper.
