Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune's old sewage plants are through dumping in the river.
Fish and crabs are back in once again making their way up to Jacksonville. But for how long? New Riverkeeper Mike Sanderford says if the ecological impact to the river changes, the salt water line will move closer to the inlet, eventually killing oyster and clam beds. Just one more reason, as well as additional safety, for boaters and fishermen, to dredge the inlet. And, when the inlet gets its last pass from a dredge next month, some like the Riverkeeper say the damage may already be done.
