The new year means farmers have a new way to take advantage of sales tax exemptions. Farmers will now need an exemption number from the State Department of Revenue, instead of filling out agriculture certificates. Farmers do not have to pay sales tax on items like feed, seed, and fertilizer. They pay only a one percent tax on farm machinery, with a maximum of 80 dollars in taxes per item.
