The state DMV says people who purchase antique and custom-built vehicles from now on must have them inspected and photographed before they can get a title.
The policy comes six months after allegations that a former DMV
commissioner helped a friend get a vintage vehicle title for a
replica. The DMV also discovered problems with its process for
tracking antique vehicles and catching fake titles.
Owners who have already registered their vintage and
custom-built vehicles and have titles for them won't be affected by
the new rules.
