Report: Minorities Less Likely To Get Pain Killers

A new study finds that emergency room doctors are prescribing strong narcotics more often to patients who complain of pain, but minorities are less likely to get them than whites.

According to the study that appears in tomorrow's Journal of the
American Medical Association, minorities were prescribed narcotics
such as oxycodone and morphine less frequently than whites -- even
for the severe pain of kidney stones.

In more than 2,000 visits for kidney stones, whites got
narcotics 72 percent of the time, Hispanics 68 percent, Asians 67
percent and blacks 56 percent.

One expert says the race gap finding may reveal some doctors'
suspicions that minority patients could be drug abusers lying about
pain to get narcotics, even though blacks are the least likely
group to abuse prescription drugs.

The people that do these studies need to get a real job and quit trying to make everything about race or ethnic groups. Get a job and realize that Dr's are treating patients based on their medical histories and if you have high blood pressure you can't take the same meds that someone who doesnt have it can. Report the whole story and not just the parts of it that suit your cause.

You wanna know what I am sick of hearing? The word "minority". There is no such thing anymore. To me, this word has become a racial slur. Its now 2008, there isnt any more less than more than races. If anything, the blacks should be called the "Majority" instead of "Minority".

Health care in this country is something we should all be embarrassed about and now to discover that physicians are alllowing their racial biases to dictate their care! It is obvious the Hipocratic oath means nothing to them.
