A North Carolina firm is helping Pittsburgh find a surveillance system that will suit the city's security needs.
Pittsburgh hired Charlotte, North Carolina-based N.W. Getz and
Associates to find high-tech cameras and computer networks for the
city. The company will also teach Pittsburgh how to use the cameras
without abusing privacy.
By June, Pittsburgh and N.W. Getz expect to choose a company
that will build the system's backbone and have cameras in place to
look over the ports and other nearby facilities. Slowly, the system
will expand into neighborhood business districts and crime hot
Public Safety Director Michael Hess says the cameras are meant
to help make the city safer along with other means used by police.
