Winn Dixie Declares Chapter 11

Supermarket chain Winn Dixie filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday night. So what does that mean for stores and workers in Eastern Carolina?

Maybe not much. The company, which blames slow sales and high operating expenses for its financial problems, is going to reorganize. The plan calls for ending property leases at two warehouses, as well as 150 stores that have already been sold. The company will also re-finance its debt.

Winn Dixie operates 900 stores and employs about 80,000 workers in the southeastern U.S. and the Bahamas.
