2008 Will Be Busy Year For Military Homecomings

It has been a quiet year on North Carolina military bases, with thousands of troops deployed in Iraq in Afghanistan. But that is expected to change in 2008.

More than 22,000 service members based at Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg are set to return home in the next year from their latest deployments.

Roughly 12,000 paratroopers from Fort Bragg are scheduled to return to the post in 2008 and move into new barracks and offices built while they were away. All four of the 82nd Airborne Division's combat brigades were deployed overseas for several months in 2007.

And the military says about 10,500 Marines who are assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force are expected to return to the Corps' main East Coast base in 2008.
