Good Deed Goes Bad

A good Samaritan claims he barely escaped with his life after the hitch hiker he picked up stabbed him in the neck. Authorities say a 45-year-old Cove City man told police he picked up an unidentified man near the intersection of South Glenburnie Road and Neuse Boulevard, just after 6 p.m. Sunday evening. The man then told police he was later stabbed in the neck and the ear after the hiker demanded money. Authorities say you shouldn't give anyone a ride you don't know. New Bern police say the victim in the case is listed in fair condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Authorities say they're still looking for a suspect.
