Up-up and away. There's a new helicopter pad in Craven County. The helipad, located on Weyerhaeuser's saw mill in New Bern, will be used as a landing spot for emergency rescue helicopters in western Craven County. Craven County emergency management director Stanley Kite says he and other officials saw a need for additional planned landing space after a series of accidents on Highway 43 last year. Pedro, the rescue helicopter maintained by Marines at Cherry Point, was on hand to officially declare the helipad open.
