Parents Outraged Over School Assignment

A homework assignment has a lot of parents upset with several teachers at River Road Middle School in Elizabeth City.

Seventh graders were given a writing assignment which stated "The President is sending troops to Iraq to fight. Families are losing loved ones because of Bush's determination to set up democracy in Iraq." Then the assignment was for students to write President Bush convincing him to send our troops home.

One family says they are deeply concerned about such an assignment. Pasquotank County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tony Stewart says the writing assignment had only one point of view and apologizes to anyone who may have been offended.
