A Wisconsin meat processor is recalling 123,000 pounds of ground beef in seven states, including North Carolina, because it may be contaminated.

Emmpak Foods says the beef may have been contaminated with hydraulic fluid at its Milwaukee plant.

The company says most of the meat was shipped to retail distributors in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. But, it says about 22,000 pounds went to Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Emmpak issued the recall after a customer complained to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The one-pound packages are marked with sell-by dates of January 31st, February 1st and 2nd. The packages carry the code EST-20654 located inside the USDA inspection mark.
