An arrest has been made in the shooting of two people in a cab in Greenville.

Edmond Hawkins of Winterville is charged with two counts of attempted murder and attempted armed robbery.

Greenville police say around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday night, a Courtesy Cab driver went to a cab call on North Sylvan Drive. When the cab arrived, police say a man and a woman came from behind the house. The driver tried to drive away after noticing the man was armed with a shotgun.

The suspect fired at the cab, hitting the driver and his passenger. The cab ended up striking a fence and tree.

Police say both victims suffered minor injuries from shotgun pellets and glass. Both were released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Hawkins is in jail under a $1 million bond and police say additional charges and additional arrests are expected.

Original Story

Greenville Police said Wednesday they are talking to people of interest in the shooting of a cab driver in Greenville Tuesday night.

Police say the cab driver was shot just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. Someone called a cab to come to the intersection of May and Sylvan Street in West Greenville.

Greenville police say when a Courtesy Cab Co. driver got to that intersection a woman flagged the driver down.

The driver stopped and police say a man with a shotgun showed up. He fired his gun and the cab driver suffered pellet injuries to his arm. The cab then crashed into a tree in the front yard of 104 Sylvan Street.

There was a woman in the passengers seat. Police say some of the buckshot ricocheted off her head. Both were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Police say their injuries are not life-threatening.

Looks to me like it is the PARENTS that are the criminals... the ones out doing these things while they should be home with their children.

Another thug....what else can you say. Until the parents (I know they don't care) start being responsible for their little criminals, nothing is going to change. We all know that the courts are not going to put them where they need to be.

It seems as if crime has increased since Chief Anderson's "Community Policing" has come to be. Oh well, sounds good in theory. Come on Chief, lets start cracking down on the bad guys...
