State health officials say cases of the flu are on the rise calling the situation widespread.
Because of that, Pitt County Memorial Hospital is urging everyone experiencing flu like symptoms wishing to visit a patient to stay home. Any visitor with a persistent cough may be asked to wear a face mask while inside the hospital.
State health officials also say even though the flu is being called widespread it is still no more than a typical influenza wave.
