A grandmother is dead, and relatives say an on-going dispute between a Martin County resident and one of their family members may be to blame.
Martin County sheriff's deputies arrested 37-year-old Kaher Maruf Muhammad and charged him with an open count of murder. The sheriff says, it appears Muhammad was following 65-year old Shelby Tripp Leggett, when the two cars pulled over on Highway 125 North of Williamston Tuesday night. Deputies won't comment on what happened once they pulled over, but they do say that's when Muhammad shot and killed Leggett. Muhammad was arrested shortly after the incident, and will have his first appearance in court on February 23rd.
