Transit Program in Need of Funds

Will Pitt County residents be able to count on the Pitt Area Transit System to take them throughout the county at a reasonable rate? Last year a $40,000 grant allowed the Pitt Area Transit System to operate a program to transport people living in rural parts of the county into Greenville. Now every penny of that grant is gone. Monday Pitt County Commissioners met to consider ways to keep the program running. The grant allowed the rates to stay at around $5.00 instead of as much as $20.00 a ride from Pitt County cities just outside of Greenville. Now the program needs about $58,000 to stay operational through late June.
