Celebrity cook Paula Deen is in the middle of a labor dispute.
The United Food and Commercial Workers union held a rally last
night outside Deen's restaurant in Savannah.
The union has targeted Deen because of her endorsement deal with
Virginia-based Smithfield Foods. It's the owner of the world's
largest pork processing plant in Tar Heel, North Carolina. The
union has fought with the company for more than a decade in
attempts to unionize the plant's workers.
Union organizers want Deen to meet with disgruntled workers at
the Tar Heel plant and take their concerns over low pay and poor
working conditions to Smithfield executives. They also want her to
stop endorsing Smithfield products if the company refuses to make
Deen says she has no plans to intervene.
