Dolly Says Brother Being Used As A Scapegoat

Country music star Dolly Parton is rallying to the defense of her brother, who she says is being made the scapegoat for problems at the theater that bears his name.

Parton says her brother's act at The Randy Parton Theater was "top of the line" even though officials in Roanoke Rapids indefinitely banned him from performing. They also cut his salary and removed him from production duties amid slow ticket sales and questions about how he spent public money.

Roanoke Rapids borrowed more than $21 million to build the facility, which is supposed to be part of an entertainment hub in eastern North Carolina.

Dolly Parton says she knows in her heart that her brother gave it her best effort, and she cites several factors that may have hurt the project. She says now that things aren't working as well
as people had hoped, everyone is pointing fingers and refusing to
take the blame.

Hello, did you folks not see where he had purchased liquor, travel accomodations, and paid rent with money from this organization??? I am not saying he is a bad person or performer, but do you agree with your tax dollars helping someone pay their rent, getting drunk, or going to Vegas to gamble. I would like to go to Vegas, will you buy my tickets???

Sounds like the City Council needs to be investigated and replaced. How idiotic was it to borrow that kind of money to build a Randy Parton Theatre in Roanoke Rapids, NC? What is the world would make people load up and travel there to see a country music show? What else is there to draw people to that area? It's not like it's Myrtle Beach or somewhere that is a tourist town. It all sounds fishy to me.

I ought to be made the scapegoat that poor Randy was made. I would have been able to retire in three years.

i agree with dolly about randy parton. it is not his fault that the peaple were not coming , there was nothing there to bring the tourist into that area enough to justify them traveling to that town! pressure was put on randy, as if it was his fault.i'm sure this created much pressure on him and his family.i've known randy for several years in his shows at dollywood and when i went to see his show at roanoke rapids , he was under an excessive amount of pressure!! i saw the show it was great ! this area is not like the movie ( build it and they will come - field of dreams)!!! it takes much more than a theatre to draw people.
