The former president of Wayne Community College is throwing his hat into the ring--wanting to become a state senator.

Ed Wilson announced this morning that he'll seek the 5th district senate seat being vacated by Senator John Kerr.

Wilson, a Democrat, retired in June as president of Wayne Community College.

Kerr is retiring after eight terms in the senate and three in the house.

The fifth district includes all of Greene and portions of Pitt & Wayne counties.
