Insurance companies doing business in North Carolina are seeking an eleven and a half percent increase in auto insurance rates. An attorney for the bureau says it's not sure such an increase is warranted. The insurance department has not agreed to an increase in auto rates for at least the past four years. A hearing will be scheduled for later this year if the insurance department and the rate bureau can't agree on the rates.
