Fire service is something we may take for granted but now one local community will no longer have to do without it
For two years, the Ponzer community rallied together to raise money to build a new fire department and now they are ready to respond. Residents in the small community of Ponzer in Hyde County can now get the help they need in a timely manner. In years past, the town would have to depend on Belhaven and Pungo Fire Departments to respond to calls, which could be precious time lost in order to save a burning home.
The new building cost one hundred sixty thousand dollars. Most of the money generated through fundraiser and a loan. The firetrucks and the land were donated by the community and neighboring fire departments.
