Lieutenant Governor at Cherry Point to Talk About Future of Bases

It's one little acronym that can send big shudders through many, BRAC. It stands for Base Realignment And Closure, and so far North Carolina has only taken minor hits since the Feds started BRAC a few years ago.

The five bases in our state employ more than 150-thousand personnel, both military and civilian, and provide a direct economic impact of more than $10 billion yearly.

North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue visited Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in Havelock Monday to talk about the base's future.

The federal government plans to appoint a BRAC Commission by spring to evaluate each base's productivity.
