Utility Discounts Light Bulbs To Gauge Interest In Saving Energy

Progress Energy is trying to gauge the public's interest in energy efficiency by discounting compact fluorescent light bulbs by $1 each.

The bulbs use 75 percent less energy than traditional bulbs and last up to 10 times longer, but they're more expensive. The discount can cut the cost of a compact fluorescent by more than half.

So far, the utility has sold 170,000 bulbs through local Home Depot stores. The goal is 200,000 by the end of the year.

Progress included an update of the program in its efficiency proposal filed Monday with the North Carolina Utilities Commission. If successful, it could be adopted long-term as part of a broader energy efficiency plan.

Progress officials say the efficiency programs could help customers reduce electricity consumption by as much as 15 percent.

Peaks of sun? Did you mean peeks of sun? Do you have spell check Editor's Note: We do indeed have spell check. "Peaks" is a word and spelled correctly. We can't find peaks or peeks in this story. What are you referencing?

i know that the story of the young marine woman and her baby being killed was a sad and tragic story but just like you have a guestbook for her would you please do the same for the Jamesha Miller, the young girl who was killed in Windsor. I am sure there are a lot of people who would like to express their love for her and her family during this very difficult time for them. Thank-you. Signed,A Windsor Elementary Mom.

this story makes me sick, not only the girl loosing her live but the unborn child, which eveyone knows that a baby that old is very much alive, and this child was most likely burnt alive after the mother was killed, the person responsible for this crime needs to be put away. call it what you want, but in my eyes two lives were taken.
