Ticket Sales Slow For Hawaii Bowl

The ECU Pirates football team will soon be saying aloha as they get ready for the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. But will there be many fans joining them?

Many fans are excited about the Pirates getting that bowl bid, but many say they just can't afford the trip to Hawaii.

Tickets for the game are now on sale on-line and at the athletic ticket office. Officials say tickets sales are slow because of the distance and cost of the trip. Just over 100 tickets of the 5,000 ECU has have been sold.

The athletic office also is offering package deals to the game that include a hotel stay in Hawaii. Students we talked with Monday said they really can't afford to make the nearly 5,000 mile trip.

The ticket box office is also taking donations for tickets. Those donations will pay for a member of the armed forces stationed in Hawaii to go to the game and hopefully cheer on the Pirates.

My initial reaction to the last paragraph is "to HE-- with the Hawaii Bowl"!!!!! Who is the idiot(s) responsible for making the decision to charge military personnel to get into the game?! I sure hope its not ECU officials. If so, and I wouldn't be surprised, then once again we have something else to tarnish our reputation and make me ashamed of our school. If not, ECU officials need to formally protest this outrageous decision!!
