Black ice, that's what's crippling some roadways across the east Saturday. Dozens of accidents caused by the unseen pavement menace have littered several roadways across the east. Lawmen say an 18-wheeler crossing a bridge in the Pitt County town of Grimesland underestimated the power of the slick surfaces, when he jack-knifed his rig into a sedan, running of the roadway on Grimesland Bridge Road. With temperatures expected to drop even lower this evening, emergency maintenance officials say black ice on bridges will be a night drivers worst enemy.
Grimesland Bridge Road, where this accident happened had 3 other accidents happen there Saturday morning as well. Emergency management officials are testing roadways across the east for frozen bridges and are detouring various roads for caution.
