Medical Maggots

Diabetes is a medical condition suffered by far too many here in Eastern Carolina. And doctors say foot ulcers of diabetics lead to more amputations than any other injury.

Cleaning the ulcers is critical to saving feet from amputation. When traditional ways to clean the wounds fail, Dr. Marcus Duda in Greensboro uses medical maggots.

Thursday at 6 p.m. Heather King explored the use of these insects, which serve as Mother Nature’s miniature surgeons.
