Jacksonville's City Council hailed its football heroes Tuesday night.
Head coach Phil Padgett and the Southwest High School Stallions received awards from Mayor Jan Bean Slagle, for their state championship win last month at Duke University. It was the Stallion's second state 2-A championship in a row, matched only by Greenville Rose with their back-to-back wins in 2003 and 2004. It was also Padgett's third state championship.
