Pitt County Crime Stoppers say a commercial on WITN-7 generated the tip that led them to a man, who may be responsible for stealing 80 sections of the station's spare transmission line in December. Jerome Andreas Smith was arrested Tuesday and put behind bars under a $125,000 bond. Officials say Smith worked on a crew that provided services to a radio tenant at the transmitter site in Grifton. Smith and two other crew workers are accused of stealing the copper and selling it for scrap.
