The North Carolina Division of Forest Resources says a lack of rain this winter may lead to a busy wildfire season. To help protect homes and businesses, fire experts are bringing a nationwide initiative called "Firewise" to parts of Eastern North Carolina.

Firewise is a set of suggestions that include creating an open area around your property to help prevent fires. Other ideas include reducing the amount of fuel and brush around the house and limiting the amount of combustible materials stored around your home.

The height of the wild brush fire season in North Carolina begins in March and runs through the end of May.
