The political arm of one of the state's leading lobbying groups has endorsed Democrat Beverly Perdue for governor.
The lieutenant governor picked up the endorsement from the political action committee of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers. The group is backing Perdue for the Democratic nomination over State Treasurer Richard Moore.
The decision could mean more campaign dollars for Perdue and gives her more support heading toward the May primary.
Academy chief executive Dick Taylor said Wednesday the group chose Perdue because of the relationship they had when she served in both the House and Senate. Taylor says Perdue strongly supports protecting people's rights and assuring justice.
The 4,000-member academy often lobbies on issues such as the death penalty and medical malpractice reform.
