State Lifts Advisory For New River

The state has lifted its water quality advisory for portions of the New River in Jacksonville after a half-million gallons of untreated sewage spilled into Northeast Creek.

The advisory was posted last Tuesday after a lift station malfunctioned at Camp Lejeune. This malfunction affected the New River, including
areas in the vicinity of the N.C. Hwy. 24 wildlife ramp, Wilson Bay and Northeast Creek downstream to French's Creek.

The Division of Environmental Health says followup water testing shows bacteria levels are below state and federal standards set for recreational contact.
