Pitt County Teacher Receives 2007 Teacher of Excellence Award

Elizabeth Strathern, teacher at Third Street School, received the 2007 Teacher of Excellence Award at the 57th annual Conference on Exceptional Children held in Greensboro on November 12, 2007.

The award is given by the Exceptional Children Division of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Strathern has been providing direct service in support of children, families and the community for twenty-five years. She has proven to be an innovator in the area of Special Education since coming to Pitt County Schools in 2000, where she began her employment at the Third Street School working in the area of Pre-School autism. She continues her employment in the same school today.

She has also been nominated for Teacher of the Year at the Third Street School two times, in 2004 and 2005.
