A Greenville teacher wins the 2007 Teacher of Excellence Award. The Exceptional Children Division of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction gives the award each year, and this year, gave it to Elizabeth Strathern. She teaches at Third Street School in Greenville.
Strathern began working in Pitt County Schools in 2000, but she's been supporting children in the community for 25 years. Her focus is in the Pre-School autism area at Third Street School. Strathern has also been nominated for Teacher of the Year at the Third Street School two times, in 2004 and 2005.
The Teacher of Excellence Award is given in honor of teachers and related service providers who have made significant contributions to the education of children with disabilities and children identified as academically and/or intellectually gifted.
