Update: Thanksgiving Shooting Victim In Stable Condition

A 19-year-old woman from Washington is listed in stable condition Friday morning after getting shot in the neck during Thanksgiving dinner.

Martin County Lt. Drew Robinson says Jameka Lanise Williams was shot at 3250 Everetts Road in Everetts near Williamston. Someone else in the home at the time called 911 around 4:15 p.m. Thursday to report the shooting.

Lt. Robinson says a person found a .22 caliber handgun on the floor of the home, started to play with it, and it accidentally fired a shot, hitting Williams in the neck.

An ambulance took Williams to Martin General Hospital. Once there, an East Care helicopter flew her to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Lawmen say she was able to talk to detectives about the shooting later that night.

Lt. Robinson says the investigation is ongoing, but this appears to be an accidental shooting. No charges have been filed at this time. Lawmen are not releasing the name of the shooter.

How can you just find a .22 caliber handgun on the floor? This is crazy. The gun control freaks are going to have a ball with this.
