ECU college students may soon have a new tool that can pinpoint their location in a moment of distress.

As early as next year, a new personal alert device could be distributed to students and staff.

Dr. Barry Duval from the ECU Center for Wireless and Mobile Computing says when a student needs either police or medical assistance all they have to do is press a button on the device.

Dr. Duvall says personal alert devices are a great tool for recruiting prospective students worried about campus safety.
