Phone Service Knocked Out

If you were in need of emergency assistance Thursday and could not get help, that's because some 911 services were down.

Phone service in the 252 area in 18 Northeastern counties in our state was knocked out to most homes, businesses, and cell phones. Officials with Sprint tell us the problem is at the switching station in Williamston in Martin County.

Officials there asked customers to hang a white flag or pillowcase in windows to signal for help. Sprint says most phones are back on but says residents in Tyrrell County won't have service until Friday morning.
