An autistic boy missing about a day in Morrow Mountain State Park has been located and officials say he is safe.
State parks spokesman Charlie Peak says 13-year-old Kyle Whittman of Oakboro was found about 3 p.m. More information wasn't immediately available.
More than 100 searchers looked for the boy along horse trails in a section of the 5,000-acre park about 50 miles northeast of Charlotte.
Peak says the boy went missing Sunday afternoon during a hike with his father.
The search effort included tracking dogs and searchers on foot and all terrain vehicles.
