Top Races At A Glance

Democrat Mike Easley held onto his Governor's seat by beating Republican challenger Patrick Ballantine. An Associated Press exit poll shows Easley attracted voters who believe better economic times are around the corner. Ballantine fought back tears during his concession speech, saying its been "one heck of a ride."

Democrat Beverly Perdue has defeated Republican Jim Snyder to be re-elected Lt. Governor.

Republican Richard Burr wins U.S. Senate seat over Democrat Erskine Bowles.

First District Democratic Congressman G.K. Butterfield has retained his seat. Butterfield defeated Republican challenger Greg Dority.

Third District Republican Congressman Walter Jones Jr. defeats Democrat Roger Eaton.
