A 14-member committee from the National Academy of Sciences is holding a hearing about water contamination at Camp Lejeune as part of an investigation ordered by Congress last year.

Committee members also plan to tour contaminated sites on the
sprawling Marine Corps base.

Base officials closed several wells in 1987, after contamination was discovered by solvents from a dry cleaners across the street from a base housing complex.

According to government estimates, up to 1 million people were exposed to the chemicals.

The committee is charged with reviewing scientific information on links between the contamination and its effect on unborn children, infants and adults.

The committee is part of the science academy's National Research
Council.

WITN's Chelsea Donovan will Have more on this story starting on WITN News at 5.

If you feel you may have been exposed to the contaminated water, please go to the website of The Few, The Proud, The Forgotten at www.tftptf.com. There is a lot of information on the site and it is run by people who have been affected.

I went to Motor Transport School at Camp Johnson while in the Marine Corps sometime between 1975 and 1978. I also was at Camp Lejeune during this time. Should I be concerned?

Editor's Note: You can call 1-877-261-9782 for information or log on to http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/sites/lejeune/faq_water.html. Hope this helps.

Hi, I am trying to respond to the contaminated water story but the link didn't work, so I hope this finds it's way into the news reporters hands. We would have been there if we had not been lied to by the committee coming to Jacksonville today the 15th! Reply: Contaminated water at TT aboard Camp Lejeune from 89-91. I am furious because me and my two children were contaminated in 1989 at TT 2 and we went to the Congressional hearing in Jacksonville and later it came out at another Congressional hearing in Atlanta that the well in question was not capped off until 91. I called Tamara from the group and she said you reported the story wrong that is was just a tour to see the contaminated sites, not a public input session about being there and health effects! So because she lied to me about the hearing Nov 15th we did not come and I am sure she has told many others the same thing! I was a lifeguard for the base pool and I had video footage of the creek running behind the day care wher
