The U.S. Navy is asking federal judge Terrence Boyle to allow them to spend an additional $5 million in planning for the proposed outlying landing field in Washington and Beaufort counties.

Boyle has halted development of the field until lawsuits can be heard. The Navy told Boyle it needs to spend the additional money on planning for land acquisition and construction, while it appeals his ruling.

Boyle says he'll rule on the Navy's request by the end of the week.
