The head of a private laboratory that provided DNA testing in the Duke lacrosse rape case is no longer working for that company.
Brian Meehan isn't talking about his departure from
Burlington-based DNA Security Inc., but says he might talk later
Information omitted from the lab's initial report helped
exonerate three lacrosse players falsely accused of rape. That
omission also played a large role in downfall of former Durham
County District Attorney Mike Nifong, who prosecuted the case.
The initial report says none of the lacrosse players who
underwent DNA testing matched evidence collected from the accuser.
The report failed to note that DNA from other men who were not on
the lacrosse team was found on or about the woman. The information
was eventually turned over to defense attorneys, but only amid
thousands of pages of raw testing data.
